Our Literacy Council serves two distinctive groups of individuals: those (the majority) who are acquiring the English language, and those whose primary language is English, but who need help in reading and writing.
Students in the first group usually work in small groups at any of various centers. Students who want to read and write better are tutored individually, and the place and time of tutoring is set between the student and the tutor.
Once students have acquired basic reading and writing skills, they are able to do simple tasks such as taking a driving test, filling out a job application, and understanding written directions. We have seen an increase in the number of adult students whose primary language is English but whose skills in reading and writing need improvement.
GREAT NEWS! The Citizenship Study Guide website has transitioned to a completely free site. There is no longer a user/login or member requirement.
All study pages, flashcards, questions and quizzes for US citizenship preparation, in both English and Spanish, are now completely accessible to everyone who accesses the site. This resource can now be used not only jointly by the tutor/instructor but also by the student independently, 24/7.
