Illiteracy is a critical issue in today's society, Central Coast Literacy Council is devoted to  help those who are lacking or failing in their English skills. Do you know that:

•  21 million Americans can't read at all

•  Nearly half of America's adults are "functionally
    illiterate." They can't carry out simple tasks like
    balancing a check book or reading drug labels 

•  More than three out of four of those on welfare are
    illiterate 

•  About 60% of America's prison inmates can’t read

•  It is estimated that the cost of illiteracy to business 
    and  the taxpayer is $20 billion per year.
